Tabology

Privacy policy

Effective 30 October 2026 · applies to the Tabology extension for Firefox, Chrome and Edge

Tabology doesn’t collect, send or share any of your data.

Everything it saves stays on your own computer. There’s no account, no analytics and no tracking, and the extension never connects to a server.

What Tabology saves on your computer

To do its job, Tabology keeps these in your browser’s storage for the extension:

  • Your workspaces: the address, title and icon of each tab, your tab groups (name, colour, collapsed or not) and which tab was active.
  • Your sets: which workspaces belong together and where each window sits on your screens.
  • Earlier versions of each workspace for three days, so you can restore one.
  • Windows closed by “Replace all” that weren’t saved, kept for three days so you can reopen them.
  • Copies of your last 14 daily backups and last 5 exports, so the Backups page can list them.
  • Your settings, such as colours and list order.

Only tabs in windows you’ve chosen to save are recorded. Tabology doesn’t keep a history of the pages you visit.

Files it writes

Once a day Tabology saves a backup file to Downloads/TabologyBackups on your computer and keeps the latest 14. When you choose Export, it saves a file where you pick. These files stay on your computer unless you move them somewhere yourself.

What it never does

  • It never sends your tabs, workspaces or anything else over the internet.
  • It doesn’t use analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind.
  • It doesn’t sell or share data, because it has none to share.
  • It doesn’t load code from the internet. Everything it runs comes with the extension.

Site icons in your saved tabs are shown from the icon saved with each tab. In Chrome and Edge, the browser may fill in a missing icon from its own records. In Firefox, the icon may be loaded from the site itself, just as when you visit it.

Why it asks for each permission

tabs
To read the address, title and icon of tabs in windows you save, and to open, move and close tabs when you open or close a workspace.
tabGroups
To save your tab groups and put them back when a workspace reopens.
storage
To keep your workspaces, sets and settings on your computer.
unlimitedStorage
So a large collection of workspaces and their history isn’t cut short by the browser’s default storage limit.
menus / contextMenus
To add “Move tab to workspace” to the right-click menu.
downloads
To save the daily backup and your exports, and to remove backups older than 14 days.
alarms
To run the daily backup and the regular saves of earlier versions.
sessions
Firefox only: to remember which open window belongs to which workspace after the browser restarts.
sidePanel
Chrome and Edge only: to show Tabology in the side panel.
favicon
Chrome and Edge only: to show site icons in your lists of saved tabs.

Removing your data

Delete a workspace or set from Tabology at any time. Removing the extension deletes everything it stored in the browser. Backup and export files in your Downloads folder stay until you delete them.

Changes to this policy

If a future version handles data differently, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date at the top will change.
